추수감사주일 (Thanksgiving Sunday)
오타와한인교회의 추수감사주일은 캐나다의 추수감사절을 기준으로 지냅니다.
캐나다 첫 Thanksgiving은 1578년으로 미국의 개척자들보다 43년 더 먼저 시작했지만, 공식적인 첫 기념은 1879년 11월 6일이었어요. 그 후 1957년 1월 31일에 캐나다 의회는 10월 둘째 주 월요일(오늘날의 날짜)을 "캐나다가 받아온 축복과 풍성한 수확에 대한 전능하신 하나님께 감사드리는 날"로 선포하였습니다. 미국은 1621년에 처음 시작하여 1789년에 미국 초대 대통령 조지 워싱턴이 국경일로 정하였고, 1864년에 링컨 대통령이 11월 마지막 주 목요일로, 1941년에 프랭클린. D. 루스벨트 대통령이 11월 넷째 주(오늘날의 날짜)로 연례 국경일을 정했습니다. 비공식적인 기념을 첫 Thanksgiving로 인정하느냐에 안 하느냐 따라 추수감사절을 처음 시작한 나라가 달라지기에 여전히 설왕설래하고 있네요.
