Native Missions

Waswanipi, Winneway Mission

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. (Acts 1:8)

About Native Missions

This year is the 20th year since OKCC embarked on Native mission since 1999. More than one hundred of our church members have participated including children, youth, and elders. The purpose of the mission is to evangelize Winneway and Waswanipi as we obey and fulfill the Great Commission that Jesus has given to all Christ followers and His church.

Since the nation of Korea was a past victim of oppression and colonization, Koreans are at a unique position that can empathize and friendly reach out to The Natives. This enables Koreans to have close trust and connection with them.

Thus, Native Mission has been mostly led by many Korean churches in the country.

However, there are a lot of challenges of carrying out the Native Mission. It requires continuous long-term commitment and little or no fruits may seem evident.

Over the past years, OKCC Native Mission teams have built a deep relationship and trust with both Winneway and Waswanipi, and OKCC will continue to prayerfully evangelize until their lives are transformed by the Gospel of Jesus.

The reserves

Waswanipi: Located in North Quebec where approximately 1,500 Natives (Cree tribe) reside. They have established stable lives engaged with hunting, felling, mine, and more. There are two churches located in Waswanipi (Waswanipi Pentecostal Church and St Barnabas Church), and 1/3 of the residents are believers.

Winneway: Located in mid-west Quebec where approximately 500 Natives (Algonquin tribe) reside. Some have established stable lives with hunting, forestry, and more. However, except those who work at the community center or school, many are still unemployed, and live with poverty and suffering in various aspects of their lives. There is one Catholic church, and there are few different groups that meet for prayers, Bibles study, and fellowship from time to time.
